HOW TO MULTIPLY DECIMALS:

1. Write your multiplication problem vertically (up and down).
2. Multiply like normal (ignoring the decimals).
3. Count the total number of digits to the right of the decimals in the multiplication problem.
4. Place a single decimal in the answer so the number of digits to the right of the decimal matches the number from Step 3.

MULTIPLYING DECIMALS EXAMPLE PROBLEMS:

A.) Multiply 52.7 by 100.

Tip: When multiplying a decimal by a power of 10 you can skip all this work by using a shortcut. Just move the decimal to the right the same number of spaces as zeroes in your power of 10. (i.e. In 100 there are 2 zeroes. If we multiply 52.7 by 100 we can just move the zero in 52.7 two places to the right to get 5270.)

B.) Multiply 6.99 by 18.

C.) Multiply 13.7 by 0.78.
