Addition Color by Number Printables

Who doesn’t love a good color by number? These printables let students enjoy a timeless activity while giving them an added challenge. To complete an addition color by number the student must find a sum before identifying the necessary color.

Our printables feature familiar and whimsical characters like unicorns, squirrels, sea creatures, and dinosaurs. Your students will be having so much fun completing these activities that they won’t even realize they’re learning!

We’ve also included sheets that use colored dots (in place of color words) in the key, which are great for prereaders or ESL students.

More About Color by Number

COLOR BY ADDITION INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose and print a coloring page from the selection below
Have your student(s) look over the page. Notice that each section of the picture includes an addition problem. Notice also the key at the bottom. Each color corresponds with a number.
Explain to the student(s) that the first thing they’ll do is complete the addition problems in the picture. Write the solution next to, above, or underneath the problem. Just make sure the solution is written inside the same space as the problem.
Once all of the problems have been solved, find the solution in the key.
Color each section to match the solution!

By pairing math with art, students will get to practice math facts in a fun, engaging, and creative way.

HOW AND WHEN TO USE COLOR BY ADDITION:

For early finishers: In a classroom setting it can be challenging when students finish work too quickly. To help with classroom management, provide students with color by addition sheets as a reward for finishing early. It will help keep the classroom quiet while providing additional reinforcement of math facts. Win-win!
For struggling learners: If traditional math worksheets are boring for struggling students, use color by addition instead. They’ll get the practice they need but in a fun way!
For fun or to supplement learning: It’s ok to do something just because it’s fun! Every once in a while take a day off from your traditional curriculum and learn through play.
For English Language Learners (ELL/ESL Students): Math is a universal language, but it can be a challenge when instructions aren’t in your native tongue. If you have students who struggle to understand English, use these color-by-addition pages to ease some stress. Just color over the color words so there’s no confusion.
